A good daypack carries water, food and layers comfortably for a full day.

Capacity

Most day hikes need 15 to 30 liters. Choose the larger end if you carry extra layers or hike in cold weather.

Fit

Measure your torso length from the base of the neck to the top of the hip bones. Many packs list a torso range. A hip belt moves weight off the shoulders on larger packs.

Hydration

Check for a hydration sleeve and side bottle pockets you can reach while walking.

Features

  • Ventilated back panel
  • Rain cover or water-resistant fabric
  • Trekking pole loops

Pack the essentials

Water, food, layers, navigation, a headlamp, a first-aid kit and sun protection.
